Road to Emmaus

This beautiful scripture "Road to Emmaus" (Lk.24: 13-35) has inscribed within it many levels of understanding. It is in itself a beautiful commentary of two friends on a journey and discussing recent events and joined by another who also joins in on the discourse.  However, there is more. Much more.
The words of the stranger (Jesus post Ressurrection)"you foolish men! so slow to believe all that the prophets have said! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer before entering into His glory? Then starting with Moses and going through all the prophets He explained to them the passages throughout scriptureswhat were about Himself"
And so it is that we can place ourselves on that same road or our own "Road to Emmaus" journey, life, and going through every event (prophetic moments) recognise the passages and moments where God spoke in those moments.  We can recognise Him in the suffering, in the joys in the story and history which makes up the story of our own life.
As Jesus spoke of his story going back into antiquity while still walking forward, so for each of us there is a "road" leading ahead, while looking backwards to the moments that made that "road" possible.
"It is nearly evening and the day is almost over stay with us" (Lk 24:30) this is the end of the road and the end of the journey when "evening" comes and we invite Him to stay with us and show Himself to us and share our meal with Him as He shows Himself to us in His glory.
Beautiful is the Road to Emmaus...our journey forward, whilst looking backwards to see the moments of testing and the moments of encounter.
